Local Activities for Kids

***Page in Progress***

Natural Gardener

Highlights: Gorgeous nursery with paths to walk, donkeys and chickens to watch and a tee pee for the kids to sit in.

Lowlights: It tends to get a bit crowded especially on the weekend.

Going Natural (time and money saving tips): It's free! Although it is a nursery, so you may want to support and bring home a plant or some seeds for growing.

Austin Zoo and Animal Sanctuary

Highlights: It's super small and intimate which makes for a great half day out with the kids. Feed animals, do the rounds, eat lunch, ride the train.

Lowlights: Some people go with the expectations that it is a zoo...like the big fancy San Antonio type zoo. It's not. It is an "animal sanctuary" where they take in hurt and injured animals- which actually makes it super cool in our eyes.

Going Natural: Buy your seed in the gift shop when you walk in. Pack your lunch to eat at the picnic tables. Dont forget the hand sanitizer.

City of Bee Cave Central Park

Highlights: Shiny and new play equipment. Nice big fields for throwing balls or flying kites. Great paths for biking around with kids. Dog park area away from "play areas."

Lowlights: Ants in the wood chips! If your wearing flip flops, watch out. Make sure your kids wear tennis shoes and socks.

Going Natural: bring sidewalk chalk- since there is a huge sidewalk always filled with art- which will make your kids want to contribute.

Lake Travis Community Library

Highlights: Fabulous book collection and good availability. Story time and fun little events for the kids. Very friendly staff.

Lowlights: It is very small. Story time can get super crowded. BUT they plan to build a new library soon. We will find out the details and timing and blog about it soon.

Going Natural: Look at the online for story time or events and come a bit early to get a spot.

Bee Cave Public Library

Highlights: At the Hill Country Galleria...we like to shop, so this is a big highlight. It is a very nice facility, there are tables for coloring and little areas for the kids to sit and read.

Lowlights: Not a very big selection for the little ones. It can get kind of loud when there is a crowd of kids who are not using their library voices.

Going Natural: Story time is upstairs and they do close the door when it starts.
